About Us

The name Hidsons, comes from our founder Bill Hidson the father of our Managing Director, Nigel.

Established in 1954, with two historic landmarks reached in 2009 -  55 years in business and 20 years of Citroen representation.

Hidsons has grown considerably over recent years but has still retained its focus as a family run business  providing the best possible service to its customers.

Back in 1954 much of Hidsons stock was in the form of motorcycles with £185 buying you a B.S.A Goldflash complete with sidecar.

In 1961, Hidsons acquired its first new car franchise selling Hillman with Morris soon after. The representation of the various British Leyland brands was to last right through until the late 1980’s.

In 1989, Hidsons acquired the Citroen brand at 110 High Street, Rainham, Kent. Back in those days classics such as the 2CV and the 1990 ‘European Car of the Year’ the XM with its famous hydraulic suspension showed the diversity of the Citroen brand. In today’s market Citroen are seen as market leaders in affordable technology and have many cars in the range with low CO2 emissions.

2003 was a busy year for Hidsons.  The Rainham, 5 High Street, Kent branch welcomed an exciting new era as ten years of Honda representation came to an end with the acquisition of Kia.  The Korean brand was an immediate success in the local area. The more recent introduction of European design and production along with unprecedented  warranties lasting up to 7 years has led to further growth. Who would have believed that Kia would be more popular in the Medway towns than more well known brands like Honda and Renault?

Also in 2003, Hidsons expanded out of Medway and opened its first SEAT franchise in Maidstone, Kent.   Backed by VW and Audi technology, SEAT represents a more emotional and individual choice, with an emphasis on style and performance. SEAT also offers its own Green range named Ecomotive.

In 2004, Hidsons continued its expansion by opening a further site located in Gravesend, Kent which was to house the successful Citroen and Kia brands.

January 2009 saw the addition of the Nissan franchise to run along side our Kia branch at 5 High Street.  The acquisition of the Nissan brand complements the existing Hidsons brands, Citroen, Kia and SEAT.

More recently, Hidsons has just launched their new All Terrain Vehicle Centre offering Sport, Road Legal, Off Road, Kids and Agricultural Quad Bikes, Clothing and Accessories.

With a caring approach from its staff, Hidsons has a great deal to offer as a company.  With a long history and an even healthier future, Hidsons will continue to build partnerships based on its trust and integrity which have been their reputation for the last 55 years.
