New Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV facelift unveiled in Frankfurt \

As one of the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUVs, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV made a big impact when it debuted in 2014. The sophisticated powertrain and the joy of silent, serene driving coupled with off-road power proved popular with motorists, with the Outlander PHEV becoming one of Europe’s best-selling SUVs.

A new, exciting facelift of the PHEV has arrived this year, unveiled at the prestigious Frankfurt Motor Show and due for release by the end of 2015. Mitsubishi’s North American Vice President, Don Swearingen, stated that: “Mitsubishi's outstanding sales momentum is carrying into the new year and with the arrival of the 2016 Outlander crossover we are well positioned to sustain our growth”.

This 2016 Outlander crossover features a bold new look to replace the previous model’s softer appearance. Based on the manufacturer’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ platform, the new Outlander PHEV is expected to have a more aggressive appearance. An underside skid plate and hefty 18-inch wheels will give the SUV a formidable road presence.

Sophisticated LED technology will be incorporated into the updated design, to enhance the Outlander PHEV’s modern character while providing reassuringly high visibility. Inside, the new vehicle will be even more refined than before, using dynamic dampers and innovative insulation to create a supremely quiet drive.

The durable brown leather trim is a sign of the upgraded quality level, and the redesigned seats and soft-touch upholstery heighten the premium feel. There’s also an updated infotainment system bringing music, drive data and other functions on the move.

Mitsubishi has strengthened the vehicle’s chassis, which works together with the retuned suspension to enhance the comfort-focused drive. As you would expect, the new Outlander PHEV will offer class-leading efficiency, with a precision-engineered hybrid powertrain resulting in CO2 emissions as low as 42g/km.

To build the excitement for the next-generation model further, Mitsubishi has announced a rally version of the Outlander PHEV. The racing-inspired version should silence any doubts – if there were any – about the SUV’s off-road prowess. The rally-ready Outlander PHEV will compete at the Baja Portalegre 500 cross-country event, and is certain to impress.
